Resilient Urban Landscapes

ASLF’s Resilient Urban Landscapes (RUL) program focuses on creating various types of green projects in urban areas that are resilient to the environmental problems caused by our changing climate. We take pride in our multilateral approach that combines the efforts of partners from different sectors including government agencies, community groups, academia, and private entities. Over the years we have been involved in creating numerous green projects in Syracuse.

WHAT IS OMG!?

OMG! stands for One Million Gallons! Community Partnership Program, ASLF’s latest program aiming at capturing one million gallons of annual stormwater runoff by designing and implementing green infrastructure in Syracuse with a focus on community collaboration and public outreach.

ASLF & SAVE THE RAIN

Save the Rain is Onondaga County’s award-winning stormwater management program. A wide array of green infrastructure types have been built throughout Syracuse thanks to Save the Rain. ASLF played a key role in the establishment of this program. Recently we have become more involved in the Green Improvement Fund, a program under Save the Rain that aims to address Combined Sewer Overflow in priority areas by incentivizing private land owners to implement green infrastructure on their properties.

Vacant Land Transformation

ASLF has a special interest in revitalizing Syracuse’s vacant properties, especially those located in underserved communities. A large number of these vacant lots are in located in the floodplain and deemed undevelopable. In these lots we see many potentials for green infrastructure, urban forestry, food production, and community engagement. We believe that with enough care and creativity, we can lead the effort to turn these undesirable lots from eyesores to gems that make our neighborhoods more livable and resilient.

West Onondaga Green Corridor

ASLF led the effort to reimagine West Onondaga Street, the main thoroughfare connecting downtown with parts west. Our concept consists of a complete street design combined with several green projects, with a completely redesigned Leavenworth Circle. Some of these concepts have already become reality, while others are yet to be brought to life.
