Vacant Land Transformation

ASLF has a special interest in revitalizing Syracuse’s vacant properties, especially those located in underserved communities. A large number of these vacant lots are in located in the floodplain and deemed undevelopable. In these lots we see many potentials for green infrastructure, urban forestry, food production, and community engagement. We believe that with enough care and creativity, we can lead the effort to turn these undesirable lots from eyesores to gems that make our neighborhoods more livable and resilient.

Built Projects

ASLF was awarded a Green Innovation Grant in late 2015 to design and construct green infrastructure on vacant lots in the City of Syracuse. The project was administered by the NYS Environmental Facilities Corporation. Our GIGP work compliments and supports many of the on-going green infrastructure initiatives in Syracuse, such as the Save the Rain program, and others by ASLF (Note: GIGP is not related to Save the Rain).

Below you will find site plans and photographs of our rain gardens located in the Skunk City neighborhood of Syracuse. Like all of our work, these projects are community-based and we always welcome your support. Please feel free to contact us to get involved or if you have questions or comments.
