Atlantic States Legal Foundation is proud to announce an impactful new project as part of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). Partnering with SUNY Oswego and the St. Luke Family of Caring in Oswego, New York, our goal is to significantly improve water quality and environmental sustainability within the community.
Through this project, 400 trees and shrubs will be planted to reduce the amount of untreated runoff entering Lake Ontario by over 47,000 gallons annually. These efforts will play a vital role in mitigating pollution and promoting cleaner waterways.
Moreover, this initiative will enhance the biodiversity of SUNY Oswego’s Centennial Arboretum by introducing 60 new species, expanding its botanical diversity and educational value. Two demonstration projects will also be established, utilizing native edible species to create urban food forests. These projects will serve as models for integrating native plants into urban green infrastructure, particularly benefiting Oswego’s community, by providing sustainable food sources and green spaces.
The associated educational programs will transform the Arboretum and demonstration sites into hubs for learning and public engagement. By studying and demonstrating the use of native edible species, we aim to educate the community on sustainable practices that improve water quality and foster long-term resilience.
This GLRI project is more than just an environmental effort; it’s a comprehensive initiative to enhance local ecosystems, educate the public, and build a sustainable future. Atlantic States Legal Foundation is committed to making a positive impact through innovative and community-driven solutions.
